“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” ~Maya Angelou
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined.”
~Henry David Thoreau
A few years ago, I listened to a sermon that would have a profoud effect on my ideas on aging. The preacher was turning 60. In a passionate sermon, he spoke about this season in life as being the most productive, with individual examples. I had always thought about 60 as the threshold of slowing down, getting old.
I started taking note of seniors, some elderly, doing innovative things: writing, acting, inventing, amazing physical feats. Aging can be a journey to an exciting new season in life. Released from the demands of my earlier years, time has become a lucrative paycheck to myself to spend on life in ways that eluded me before.
As my life unfolds, this blog will be a sharing of current experiences or new discoveries of myself. Nostalgia will make an entrance at times for a simpler bygone era. In looking back at the road I have traveled … potholes, detours, sorrows, triumphs, laughter and joy–It is a “Life Worth Reliving.” An appreciation I have is overcoming or living with life’s challenges and wisdom learned from experiences. I have a grateful heart for my many blessings.
While my story is no longer a book of empty pages, there are still so many more chapters to write, as God wills. As I embark on this journey with anticipation, achy joints, and my sense of quirky humor, I invite you to tag along.

“Life is a loom, weaving illusion.” ~Vachel Lindsay
Though it has been several years, that message has stuck with me: prodding me, challenging me, introspectively searching. I am on a quest. Making this season in my life a big bang. Not necessarily in big ways, but embracing the simple and making the most of each day. Live with purpose.
In hindsight, it seems like such a brief time ago I was graduating highschool. The yellowing pages of my yearbooks speak the reality of that illusion. Perusing the latest fashion trends with the same interest as I did 20-30 years ago is another illusion, (delusion?), among many.
Reality is a reminder as I pass a mirror, attempt pantyhose, or fall asleep before 9:00. My young thoughts can be a deceitful illusion. My age is my physical reality.
Possessing a young-at-heart mindset is a shot of adrenaline to my current life. Finding all sorts of adventures/lifestyles/challenges to try is exciting. The endeavors I have tried have been rewarding. Inject ziplining, twice, once in the Rockies! (A future post!)
Life may weave illusion, but learned experience and wisdom add color and strength to the fabric.
